Upgrading an operating system is always a chancy thing. An application can stop working, a modem can freeze up, and then, when upgrading to Ubuntu 6.10, Edgy Eft, you can lose your graphical user interface: windows, icon, mouse pointer, and all… Not good.

GNOME and KDE will remain two rival desktops, unless some day they can be merged in some way. “

Move over Firefox: IceWeasel is HERE!
7 10 2006From the recent Debian vs Firefox issue, it seems like “Firefox” will eventually and slowly be faced-out on GNU/Linux platforms that adheres to “free software” philosophy. There is currently a first binary release for GNU/Linux / x86 32 bit available, as well as its corresponding source code.

Roll Your Own Linux Firewall
1 10 2006Over the years I have learned how to roll my own firewall script and call it from /etc directory. Of course, my firewall is only INPUT based, instead of INPUT and OUTPUT based, but I find that building an INPUT/OUTPUT based firewall is tremendously difficult and not really all that necessary if you use good download practices on your Linux server..
